The fourteen members of the new women’s soccer team have been working hard this spring.
“We have been alternating practices and sessions between being in the weight room once a week and also trying to do our ball work and game play in the alternating week,” reported Coach Zipoli.
Fortunately the women’s soccer team does not require too much practice space.
“The fitness center has been cleared for us when asked thanks to the help of many in the athletic office so we haven’t had a problem acquiring time for the fitness center,” explained Zipoli.
CCC is working on a new soccer field for the team which will hopefully be ready in April.
Last semester, Coach Zipoli started to recruit girls for the team from high schools and the CCC Soccer Club.
“The first way I hope to add players is through any girls who are on campus who still have a year of eligibility left and would like to play soccer,” said Zipoli.
The CCC women’s soccer team is a member of Region 19 in the Garden State Athletic Conference in the Junior College Athletic Association. The athletic directors are currently in the process of confirming the soccer schedule with the other schools on the master schedule. The team has ten scheduled games with the possibility of adding two more against Reading Area Community College.
“Our schedule currently has us playing two top ten teams in all of the NJCAA, those teams being Ocean County College (5th in the National Poll) and Camden County College (8th in the National Poll) according to the NJCAA website,” said Zipoli.
If all goes well, the CCC women’s soccer team will have their first game on September 9, 2010 against Gloucester County College.
